The NY Times (The Times) has a special place in US society. The Right People read it daily. They hold it up as the standard in civility and righteousness. The Old Grey Lady withstands the test of time because that Patrician Voice appeals to the wanna-be Successes.
In the 1950s, The Times was “made available” to grade school students for pennies. Classes in Current Events used material from The Times, establishing it as authoritative. Those of us with no statistical hope of making it to The 1% learned how The 1% thought we should view them and the world in general.
The paper has been called the news-outlet for information from the CIA by some of those who engage in WrongThink publicly. Others of their ilk claim The Times does the bidding of the DOD or some other purportedly Deep State outfit. Or perhaps, the Editorial Staff and reporters print what they want to believe as they travel through the monocultural environment of the Accela Corridor and it just seems like they write an official party/agency line like Stalin’s Pravda.
The fact that the Times’s reporting is often misleading or even blatantly dishonest has been well established by generations of Historians.
