The only reason we got out of the Depression of the 1930s and ’40s was the artificial economic boost of war production. The people were impoverished, suffering stern rationing. Industry was booming making the numbers look good.
Spending money on a munition (bomb, shell, bullet), sending it into war, and having it used is the same as taking that money, putting it into the incinerator, and lighting it on fire. The process drains resources. But it drains them through acquisition, oversight, and delivery process that makes (handsome) profits for the participants.
The country learned that War was good for “business” and the military was happy to find ways to preach the need for MOAR WAR to be fought or prepared for. Preparation has an odd way of being the precursor to the thing itself. NATO prepared for the conflict in Ukraine (as proxy) for 75 years.
It would sem that the government debt problem dictates a drastic reduction in non-productive activities. Activities that are beneficial to “Business” and the MIC but not to “the people.” But it is rarely discussed.
